Seneca Falls Convention Days

  • National Womens RIghts Museum (Visitors Center) Fall Street Seneca Falls, NY, 13148 United States (map)

Seneca Falls, NY – A team of art superheroes will pay tribute to an equality-hero by asking more than two-hundred people to paint a simple ceramic tile – part of a larger portrait. The Art Force 5 will visit the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls and lead this community-based art project which pays tribute to abolitionist, reformer, and women’s rights advocate Lucretia Mott. The team will be located at the visitor center’s special exhibits room located on Fall Street in Seneca Falls. The program will run from 1pm-4pm on Friday, July 20 and 11am-4pm on Saturday, July 21. Participation is free and suitable for all ages.

Founded at Alfred University and funded by SUNY, the Art Force 5 has received national recognition for their efforts to use art to address difficult topics. In 2016, the program partnered with the Rochester Police Department to design mosaic-making sessions for officers and youth to discuss relevant city issues. The team has trained over two hundred college students turned superheroes but often travels in teams of five, leading projects for the University of Notre Dame, University of Oklahoma, New York ComicCon, Strong National Museum of Play and the New York State Museum in Albany. In 2018, the program partnered with the State University of New York (SUNY) to build a statewide team of heroes from numerous SUNY institutions and build a New York City summer program on Governors Island. A Buffalo-based team is being explored for summer 2019.
